Tax laws differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and may be subject to different interpretations by different authorities. We recommend consulting an appropriate tax professional to help you set up everything correctly.
Step 1: Configure Stripe Tax in your Stripe Dashboard
Please open Stripe Tax settings page and complete all the steps. If you have any questions, please refer to the Stripe official documentation. You'll need to:
Set your origin address
Set your tax code
Set your tax behavior (automatic/exclusive/inclusive)
Add your tax registrations
Step 2: Configure Stripe Tax in InviteMember
You can now head to Payment options > Stripe and set Automatic Tax to Enabled. That's it! You can now check your Stripe Checkout page and see how the sales tax changes depending on customer's location (if applicable).
If you sell to businesses (not only individuals), you might want to enable Tax ID Collection setting as well.
You can also control whenever you want to collect your customers' tax IDs.
Tax ID Collection: controls whenever to show tax ID input fields or not
Tax ID Required: with this setting enabled, tax ID will be required to complete the payment (so if don't have it, it won't be possible to pay)
Once enabled, Stripe will automatically calculate and collect tax based on the customer’s location at checkout.
How To Do It Step-by-Step
Enable Automatic Tax Calculation
To let Stripe handle tax rates and calculations automatically (VAT, GST, sales tax):
Log in to app.invitemember.com → go to Settings → Payment options → select your Stripe (Test/Live) connection.
Click ⋮ menu → Edit.
Toggle Enable automatic tax ON and save.
With this on, Stripe will:
Detect your business and customer locations,
Apply the correct tax rate automatically,
Update invoices, charges, and subscriptions with proper tax amounts.
Collect Customer Tax IDs
Useful for B2B sales or for customers needing VAT/ABN validation:
In Stripe Dashboard: navigate to Stripe → Settings → Checkout/Tax.
Enable Enable tax ID collection here.
With this enabled:
During payment, customers can enter their business tax ID (e.g. EU VAT, AU ABN),
Stripe stores this in the customer record and shows it on invoices.
Require Tax ID Input
If your business requires a tax ID for compliance or B2B verification:
Toggle on Require tax ID in InviteMember under Stripe payment settings.
This setting will enforce collection of the tax ID during checkout—payments won’t proceed without it.
That’s it—just configure Stripe Tax in your Stripe Dashboard, enable Automatic Tax in InviteMember, and you’re all set.
